Georg Gillis van HAANEN

Dutch painter of landscapes, portraits and genre scenes. Son of art dealer, restorer and painter Casparis Haanen (1778-1849). His siblings were flower and still-life painter Adriana Johanna Haanen, landscape painter Remigius Adrianus Haanen and genre painter Elisabeth Alida Haanen. His teacher was his father, while he himself taught painting to his sister Elisabeth Alida. In 1831 he became a member of Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam, and in 1835 of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 1842 he spent time in Mainz and Frankfurt am Main. His style was influenced by the art of Rembrandt.
