John Frederick II HERRING

1820 Doncaster - 1907 Great Wilbraham

English painter specializing in depictions of horses. Son of painter John Frederick Herring senior (1795-1865), brother of painters Charles and Benjamin. Initially he continued his father's style. Over time, he shifted to a freer mannerism and expanded on his father's landscape parts. It became characteristic of his painting to place other farm animals next to horses.
