German painter of late Impressionism. Studied from 1915 to 1916 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf under Professor Fritz Roeber. He fought in World War I. In 1918 he settled in Düsseldorf. During World War II he served as a medic on the cruiser Pinguin. He worked under the influence of French Impressionism and Flemish landscape painters, especially Jan van Goyen. He painted mainly landscapes of northern Germany.
